Gucci vs. Guess

"Luxury Brands Clash: Gucci vs. Guess Trademark Battle Ends in Settlement"

Short Description :

Gucci, the luxury fashion brand, sued Guess for trademark infringement in 2009, alleging that Guess copied several of its designs, including the iconic interlocking "G" logo, green and red stripes, and square "G" logo. The case was filed in multiple jurisdictions, including the US, Italy, France, China, and Australia, with varying outcomes.

Case Outcomes :

- US Case: In 2012, a New York court ruled that Guess infringed on Gucci's trademarks and awarded Gucci $4.7 million in damages. However, the court denied Gucci's claim for $221 million in damages.

- Italian Case: In 2013, a Milan court rejected Gucci's claims, ruling that Guess's designs were sufficiently different and did not infringe on Gucci's trademarks.

- French Case: In 2015, a Paris court dismissed Gucci's claims and ordered Gucci to pay Guess approximately $34,000.

- Chinese Case: In contrast, a Nanjing court ruled in favor of Gucci, finding Guess liable for trademark infringement.

Settlement :

After nine years of litigation, Gucci and Guess reached a settlement agreement in April 2018, concluding all pending intellectual property litigations and trademark office matters worldwide. The terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
